How We Raise Our Cattle
Our small island farm can only sustain a handful of cattle, but our herd of Highlands and Highland crosses are perfect for our coastal climate. They thrive in the cool weather, eat troublesome weeds with pleasure, and produce outstanding calves.
Calves
Our cattle live in a herd setting, and calve on pasture. Our Highland cattle produce an abundance of rich milk, and raise their calves until weaning age, usually around 8 months.
Grassfed & Finished
Our Highlands and Highland crosses thrive on pasture and forage, and are not supplemented with grain. Once calves are weaned, they eat local hay, and our grass and forage exclusively. They like to browse (eat trees, shrubs, brambles and bushes) as well, which helps to maintain our pastures.
How to Purchase
Our heritage breed beef is raised to approximately 24 months, processed in a licensed and inspected facility, and is dry-aged for at least 21 days. All of our beef is 100% grassfed and grassfinished, and free of antibiotics or hormones. For our sausages and prepared foods, we work closely with our favourite chefs and butchers to create artisinal products that reflect our passion for fresh, local ingredients. Our beef is in high-demand and is only available seasonally, in small batches. Be sure to get on our newsletter list to find out our next availability, or check the farm store to see what's in stock.
